Rental Requirements & Licence
Do you need a licence to rent a car in Phuket?
We require a valid driving licence for a car, and an International Driving Permit (IDP) where one is required in Thailand. Without a valid car licence, the vehicle is not covered by insurance. We process the rental with a passport copy and check that the driver has appropriate driving skills. The driver is responsible for complying with local traffic laws.
This published guidance remains subject to a current-applicability review. The signed agreement requires an appropriate licence valid in Thailand and an IDP where required.
Booking, Payment & Deposit
A WhatsApp inquiry is not a confirmed reservation. Our team confirms availability, pricing and handover arrangements. Full rent and the refundable deposit are due before handover. Payment methods are cash, card or bank transfer. Delivery and collection charges are separate and confirmed before booking.
Listing-specific refundable deposit
The exact amount appears on the vehicle listing and is recorded in the agreement. It is separate from rent and is not a liability cap.
Deposit collected
Paid before handover and recorded in your agreement.
Vehicle inspected
Condition, fuel, keys and supplied equipment are checked on return.
Balance refunded
The undisputed balance is returned after inspection.
Documented deductions and unresolved claims
Deductions require an itemized statement and evidence. For unresolved claims, EasyGo retains only a reasonable documented amount, explains it in writing, provides updates and promptly refunds the remaining balance after resolution. Early return alone does not forfeit the deposit.
Insurance & Liability
First-Class Car Rental Insurance Included
First-class motor insurance covering self-drive rental is included, subject to the vehicle policy’s terms, limits and exclusions.
Customer contribution: up to ฿5,000 per qualifying covered accident. This is a maximum, not an automatic charge.
For each covered accident, a compliant renter’s contribution to car damage is the actual reasonable amount left unrecovered after insurance and third-party payments, capped at ฿5,000. EasyGo absorbs the excess for that damage and does not add repair downtime charges to bypass the cap. Separate rent and liability above policy limits are not included in the cap. If renter fault or breach causes cover to be rejected or reduced, proven reasonable uninsured loss attributable to that conduct may apply.
Theft or total loss requires renter fault or breach causing the loss; the cap applies when covered and the renter complied. Uninsured fault- or breach-caused damage is charged at reasonable actual cost. Pre-existing damage, fair wear, lessor-caused loss and compensation already recovered are excluded.
Permitted Areas & Vehicle Care
Unlimited mileage applies within these provinces. Other areas, ferries, boats, islands and sea transport require prior written approval. Unauthorized travel incurs ฿5,000 plus documented resulting costs, subject to law and without duplicate recovery.
Use the selected fuel, report faults promptly and stop if unsafe.
Repairs and alterations require approval except immediate safety measures.
No alcohol or drugs, unauthorized users, racing, illegal use, off-road or beach use.
Use seat belts and appropriate child restraints. No overloading, towing, paid transport, smoking or vaping.
Pickup, Return & Charges
At handover, record condition, fuel, keys and accessories together. Return the car at the agreed time and place in its recorded condition, allowing fair wear, with all supplied items and the same fuel level. Fuel shortfalls and lost keys or fobs are charged at actual cost. Basic cleaning is included; excessive dirt requires reasonable documented cleaning costs.

How late-return charges are applied
Only time beyond the 30-minute grace period is charged, prorated for part-hours. Once more than four hours overdue, one agreed daily rate replaces hourly charges for the first overdue 24 hours. Each further started 24-hour period incurs another agreed daily rate. These charges are not added together for the same period.

Preserve photos and obtain police or insurance reports when required. For a car, also contact the insurer using the policy contact supplied with the vehicle.
Do not leave unlawfully, admit liability or settle privately without approval. Cooperate with authorities and follow police or insurer instructions. For a technical fault not caused by the renter, EasyGo provides a comparable replacement within 24 hours of notification or refunds the affected unused rental period.
The renter pays rental-period penalties and tolls, including notices received later.
Unused days are not refunded unless agreed in writing or required by law.
Vehicles may use GPS for security, recovery and fleet management.
Thai law and mandatory consumer rights apply.

What is the minimum age?

Can I rent with only a passport?

A voluntary early return does not entitle the renter to an unused-day refund unless agreed in writing or required by law. Early return alone does not forfeit the deposit.
